Reproduction services

Reproductive services are crucial for the management and care of breeding animals, ensuring the health of both the parents and offspring. Here's a list of common reproduction services offered in Camden Veterinary Hospital. We collaborate with many breeders in Macarthur area including Camden, Campbelltown, Narellan, Spring Farm, Elderslie, Oran Park,...

1. Breeding Soundness Evaluation

  • Purpose: Assessment of male and female animals for their ability to reproduce.
  • Male: Includes semen analysis, physical examination of the reproductive organs, and evaluation of overall health.
  • Female: Involves gynecological exams, ultrasound to evaluate uterine and ovarian health, and hormone testing.

2. Artificial Insemination (AI)

  • Process: Introduction of sperm into a female’s reproductive tract using non-natural methods.
  • Techniques: Vaginal or transcervical (Coming soon!) or surgical insemination based on the species and situation.

3. Pregnancy Diagnosis

  • Methods:
    • Ultrasound: Non-invasive method to detect fetal heartbeats and growth.
    • Palpation: Manual examination of the abdomen in certain species.
    • Hormone Testing: Monitoring progesterone or other reproductive hormones to confirm pregnancy.

4. Ovulation Timing

  • Purpose: Optimizing the timing for breeding or insemination.
  • Techniques: Monitoring hormone levels (e.g., progesterone) and performing ultrasounds to predict ovulation accurately.

5. C-Section (Cesarean Section)

  • Purpose: Surgical intervention during labor to safely deliver offspring when natural birth is not possible or poses risks.
  • Common in: Breeds prone to dystocia, such as brachycephalic dogs.

6. Neonatal Care

  • Support Services: Immediate care of newborn animals including warming, nursing assistance, and monitoring of vital signs.
  • Screening: Genetic and health screening of offspring to ensure a strong start.

7. Semen Collection & Freezing (Coming Soon!)

  • Service: Collecting, evaluating, and freezing sperm for long-term storage and future breeding.
  • Application: Ensures access to a male’s genetics even after death or unavailability.

8. Management of Infertility

  • Diagnostics: Investigating causes of infertility through hormonal testing, imaging, and physical exams.
  • Treatment: Hormone therapy, surgical interventions, or specialized breeding management.

9. Whelping/Queening Assistance

  • Support: Monitoring and assisting with natural births in dogs (whelping) and cats (queening) to ensure the safety of both mother and offspring.
  • Services: Home visits, emergency intervention, and postnatal care.

10. Surgical Sterilization (Spaying/Neutering)

  • Purpose: Permanent contraception through the removal of reproductive organs (ovaries/testes) to prevent unwanted breeding.
  • Benefits: Prevents reproductive diseases and helps control animal populations.

11. Management of Estrus (Heat)

  • Options: Medications or surgical procedures to manage or suppress estrus cycles in females to avoid unintended pregnancies.

Each service aims to provide optimal care and guidance for breeders, pet owners, and animal populations, ensuring safe and healthy reproduction in various species.
